Silk pillowcases are one of the few bedding upgrades with a plausible mechanism behind the marketing: a smooth surface creates less friction against hair and skin than cotton, which means fewer creases and less breakage. Both of these are genuine mulberry silk at a similar weight, so the decision is about closure, sizing, colour range and price rather than material quality.

Specifications below come from each manufacturer; Mr. Squish has not laundry-tested these side by side.

Momme weight is the number that matters

Momme measures silk weight. Below about 19 momme a case feels thin and wears out fast; 22 momme is the accepted sweet spot for bedding, and both of these hit it. Anything advertised as 'silky' without a momme figure is usually satin polyester, which is a different product entirely.

Fit and closure

Both use an envelope closure, which keeps the pillow tucked in without a zip digging into your cheek. Fit complaints in owner reviews for both brands almost always come down to buying a case sized for a standard pillow and using it on an overstuffed one — measure your pillow, not your bed.

Price and range

Slip sits at the top of the market and leans into a fashion-brand identity with a curated palette. Blissy typically undercuts it and offers a much wider colour and pattern selection, often with bundle pricing. At equal momme, the material difference between them is small enough that price and colour are legitimate deciding factors.

Care determines lifespan

Silk fails from hot water, harsh detergent and tumble drying, not from use. Cold wash in a mesh bag with a pH-neutral or silk-specific detergent, then hang to dry, and either case lasts years. That applies identically to both.

Our verdict

At the same momme weight these are closer than their price gap suggests. Blissy is the better value; Slip is the stronger brand. Either beats cotton for hair friction — and both beat a polyester 'satin' case by a wide margin.
