Firmness and feel
Out of the box the Husband Pillow is firmly stuffed — closer to a firm sofa back than a bed pillow. If that's too much, the zippered inner liner lets you pull fill out a handful at a time until it contours the way you want. We removed about two cups of foam to soften the lumbar area and it dialed in nicely.
The velour cover is soft against bare arms and the whole thing reads 'cozy chair' rather than 'medical device.' It does need a day or two to fully expand after unboxing.
Back and arm support for long sessions
This is where it earns its footprint. The back is tall enough to support up to the shoulder blades on most adults, and the detachable neck roll handles the gap above that. The arms are genuinely weight-bearing — you can rest your elbows on them while holding a book or phone at chest height, which is the whole point and the thing cheaper backrests fail at.
