The Coop Home Goods Original has been the default recommendation in adjustable-pillow circles for the better part of a decade, and the reasons are easy to see in its spec sheet and in a decade of owner feedback. It ships overstuffed with a cross-cut shredded memory foam and microfiber blend, plus a resealable half-pound bag of extra fill, so the pillow you sleep on in week three is rarely the pillow you unboxed.
That flexibility is the whole pitch. Rather than guessing your loft, you empty fill onto the bed a handful at a time until your head, neck and spine sit in a straight line. For anyone who has bounced between three pillows and never found the right height, it removes most of the guesswork.

Firmness and feel
Straight out of the bag the Original is genuinely tall — owner reports converge on pulling one to two handfuls of fill before it feels right. At full stuffing it reads medium-firm and dense; dropping it by about 20% brings it to a medium with real give, which is the range most side sleepers settle on.
The shredded fill has a slightly clumpy character common to this construction. Fluffing for ten seconds each morning resets it, and after a week that becomes automatic.
Support by sleep position
Side sleeping is where the Original shines. With the fill dialed up, it fills the gap between the ear and the shoulder without letting the head tip toward the mattress, which is the single most common cause of morning neck stiffness.
Back sleepers should remove roughly a third of the fill; otherwise the chin gets pushed toward the chest. Stomach sleepers will need to strip it far down, and even then a dedicated flat pillow is the better tool.
Cooling performance
This is the Original's weakest category. Shredded memory foam breathes better than a solid block, and the Lulltra cover feels cool to the touch on contact, but heat builds under the head over a full night. Hot sleepers should look at the cooling variant or a gel-infused alternative.
Materials and construction
The inner liner is a separate zippered case, so you can adjust fill without wrestling the outer cover. Coop rates the cover as machine washable, and long-term owner reports rarely mention fill migration or seam failure.
Foam is CertiPUR-US certified and the finished pillow carries GREENGUARD Gold, which matters if chemical smell is a sticking point for you.
Adjustability
Best in class. Two zippers — one on the outer cover, one on the liner — plus an included bag of extra fill mean you can go both directions. Our advice: remove fill in small amounts, sleep on it two nights, then adjust again. Chasing perfection in one evening rarely works.
Durability and care
After three weeks the pillow showed no permanent flattening, and long-term owner reports generally point to two to three years before the fill needs topping up — which Coop sells separately. The whole pillow is machine washable on a gentle cycle, though it takes two full dryer runs on low to dry completely.

Who should buy it
Side and back sleepers who don't yet know their ideal loft, plus anyone whose shoulder width sits outside the average and who has never found an off-the-shelf pillow tall enough.
Who should skip it
Hot sleepers who wake up flipping the pillow, and anyone who prefers the instant rebound of latex over the slow sink of memory foam.

Final verdict
Still the adjustable pillow to beat. The Coop Original solves the loft problem more completely than anything else near its price, and the only meaningful trade-off is heat retention.
