Mr. Squish Score
8.5/ 10

Casper's Original Pillow uses a pillow-in-pillow design: a firmer inner core surrounded by a softer outer pillow, all in a percale cotton shell. The idea is to get a plush surface without the head sinking straight through to the mattress.

It's the most 'default' pillow on our list in the best sense — a well-made, medium-loft, machine-washable pillow that suits a very wide range of sleepers.

Firmness and feel

Soft on the surface with a firmer core underneath. Press down and you get a couple of inches of plush give before the inner pillow catches you — that two-stage response is the whole point of the design and it works.

Support by sleep position

Back sleepers are the sweet spot: enough loft to fill the cervical curve, not so much that the chin lifts. Combination sleepers appreciate that it's moldable enough to work in several positions.

Side sleepers with wide shoulders will want more height; the Original tops out at medium loft.

Cooling performance

The percale shell is crisp and breathable and the microfiber fill doesn't hold heat like foam. It sleeps neutral to slightly cool — no gel, but no hot spots either.

Materials and construction

Two separately sewn pillows in one shell, which keeps the fill from shifting into corners. Casper rates the whole pillow as machine washable, and owner reports rarely describe fill migrating between the two layers.

Adjustability

Not adjustable, but it's genuinely moldable — you can fold or scrunch it and it responds, unlike a foam pillow. A daily fluff keeps the outer layer even.

Durability and care

Fully machine washable, which is a real advantage over foam rivals. Microfiber flattens faster than latex or down, so expect roughly two years of prime performance.

Final verdict

The reliable all-rounder. It won't be the best pillow for any single position, but it's a good pillow for almost everyone — and you can throw it in the wash.
