Layla Kapok Pillow Review

At full fill the Kapok reads medium-firm and tall. Owner reports consistently describe removing one to two handfuls before the height feels natural, which matches Layla's own guidance that the pillow is shipped over-filled on purpose.

The kapok is what makes the feel unusual. Pure shredded foam tends to feel granular; the kapok fibres fill the gaps between the foam pieces, so the surface reads smoother and more pillow-like than a foam-only fill of the same loft.

Side sleepers get the most from it: keep most of the fill in and the pillow bridges the ear-to-shoulder gap without letting the head tip down. Back sleepers should expect to remove roughly a third of the fill. Stomach sleepers can strip it very low, though a purpose-made flat pillow is still the better tool.

Kapok breathes better than solid foam and the copper cover feels cool on first contact, but this is not a cooling pillow in the way a latex or grid design is. Shredded memory foam still stores heat over a full night. If you wake up flipping the pillow, look at a latex or ventilated option instead.

Kapok is a plant fibre, so it's a natural-fill option for people who avoid down for ethical or allergy reasons. Layla states its foams are CertiPUR-US certified. The cover unzips fully, which makes both fill adjustment and washing straightforward.

One caveat worth knowing before you open it: kapok is light and airy, and fill removal is messy. Do it over a bed or a large box, and keep whatever you take out in a sealed bag in case you want it back.

A single zipper, no inner liner to fight with. Remove a handful, sleep on it two nights, then adjust again — chasing the perfect loft in one evening almost never works because your neck needs a night or two to register the change.

Layla covers the pillow with a 5-year warranty. The cover is removable and washable; kapok blends generally need periodic fluffing to stop the fibres compacting, which is the main long-term maintenance job here.
