Organic kapok fill used inside the Avocado Green Pillow

The Avocado Green Pillow is the organic-materials benchmark: shredded GOLS-certified organic latex blended with GOTS-certified organic kapok, inside an organic cotton cover. Nothing synthetic, nothing petroleum-based.

It's also fully adjustable — the fill is loose inside a zippered case, so you can pull handfuls out until the loft matches your frame.

Firmness and feel

Springy rather than sinking. Shredded latex pushes back the moment you press into it, and the kapok softens the surface so it doesn't feel like sleeping on rubber pellets. Fully stuffed it's firm; remove a third of the fill and it lands at a supportive medium.

Support by sleep position

Side sleepers should keep most of the fill — the latex resists compression, so the loft you set is the loft you keep all night, which is a real advantage over down or microfiber.

Back sleepers do well after removing a couple of handfuls. Stomach sleepers can strip it very low, though the pillow is genuinely overkill for that use.

Cooling performance

Latex doesn't retain heat the way memory foam does, and the shredded structure plus breathable organic cotton keeps air moving. It ran cool in our overnight checks without any active cooling technology.

Materials and construction

This is the strongest certification stack of any pillow we've reviewed: GOLS latex, GOTS cotton and kapok, GREENGUARD Gold for emissions. If you're building a chemical-free bedroom, this is the reference product.

Construction is simple and solid — a zippered organic cotton case with loose fill inside.

Adjustability

Excellent. Unzip, remove fill into a bag, re-zip. Avocado will also sell you extra fill if you strip too much. Give each adjustment two nights before deciding.

Durability and care

Latex is the most durable pillow fill there is — expect four-plus years before meaningful breakdown, well past what memory foam manages. Cover is removable and machine washable; the fill should not be washed.

Final verdict

The organic pillow to beat. It combines the loft control of an adjustable pillow with latex's ability to hold that loft all night, and the certifications are the real deal.
