Firmness and feel
The foam is genuinely slow-response — press it and it takes a full two seconds to spring back — which is exactly what you want for a pillow your head rests on for eight hours. It cradles rather than pushes back. The raised side supports are the highest of any U-pillow we've tested, so even broad-shouldered sleepers get cheek-level support.
The front clasp has two positions and cinches the opening so the pillow doesn't gape when you lean. Small detail, big difference.
The seat straps actually matter
Every travel pillow claims to stop your head falling forward; the S3 is the only one we've tested that mechanically prevents it. Two straps loop around your seatback and attach to the pillow, so when you nod off and slump, the pillow stays anchored and catches you. On a red-eye this is the difference between sleeping and waking up every twenty minutes with a jolt.
Warmth and breathability
Memory foam traps heat by nature, but the cover wicks better than fleece alternatives and the flattened back leaves an air gap against the seat. It's warmer than nothing and cooler than the TRTL, and owners generally find it comfortable across a full long-haul flight.
Packability and cleaning
The S3 compresses into an included stuff case down to roughly half its size — about a small melon. That's fine for a carry-on but it will never disappear into a jacket pocket like the TRTL.
