Pillow Cube cube-shaped pillow shown at an angle

The Side Cube is exactly what its name suggests: a rectangular block of memory foam engineered for one job — filling the gap between your ear and shoulder when you sleep on your side.

It is the most polarizing pillow we've tested. Dedicated side sleepers with broad shoulders often love it immediately; everyone else needs a real adjustment period, and some never get there.

Firmness and feel

Firm and structured. There is very little sink — the block holds its height and your head rests on it rather than in it. The first two nights feel strange if you're coming from a plush pillow; by night four most testers stopped noticing.

Support by sleep position

For strict side sleeping it's superb. The straight edge keeps the head level and the shoulder tucks into the space beneath the cube, which relieves the shoulder compression that flat pillows cause.

Roll onto your back and the loft is immediately too tall. Stomach sleeping is out of the question.

Cooling performance

Middling. The knit cover breathes and the foam is ventilated, but a solid foam block always retains more heat than shredded fill. Hot sleepers should consider the cooling cover variant.

Materials and construction

A single CertiPUR-US foam block with clean edges and a zip cover. Build quality is genuinely good — no sagging corners, no seam issues after weeks of use.

Adjustability

None once purchased, which makes sizing critical. Measure from the base of your neck to the outer edge of your shoulder and use that number to pick your height; sizing up when unsure is the more common mistake.

Durability and care

Solid foam resists compression well, and owner reports do not commonly describe permanent denting. Cover is machine washable; the block is spot-clean only.

Final verdict

A specialist tool that is excellent at its one job. Match your shoulder width to the right height and it can end years of morning neck pain — but only if you truly stay on your side.
